Why did we make the decision to postpone?

Before we give the reasons, we want to say that everyone’s overwhelming enthusiastic support the past two years has been more than we could have imagined and incredibly inspirational!  We had plans in place this year to improve upon our past success and will fulfill those plans in 2024.  Just a couple of the additional highlights include: 1) O’fest appropriate beverages from a local brewery, 2) Static and flying display of a vintage German Focke Wulf warbird, and 3) new food and other various vendors.

Last but not least, we are currently working with Loudoun County to allow overnight camping for Fly-In aircraft and are optimistic that this will be in place very soon!  This is huge for our Fly-In guests, as it will allow them the opportunity to enjoy festivities in town as well!!!

And, of course, the biplane rides, live music, and car show will be back with an improved event layout to make everything more accessible…

So, with all the exciting new attractions, why did we make the decision to postpone?  The short answer: the drought and breast cancer…

Linda, our event and volunteer coordinator and my right arm was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and went through surgery on July 5th.  The ever-optimistic trooper that she is, she has come through with the best possible outcome and fully intended to carry on with the event!

However, the ordeal caused me to completely shift focus for three months and left me exhausted.  As a result, a major runway improvement project that had begun in February and March got put on hold.  Combined with this Spring and Summer’s drought, the reseeding of the improved area has not gone well and forced me to keep the runway closed.

Given the huge improvement to the runway, the exciting new attractions, the expectation of overnight camping for aircraft, and the return of our previous attractions, we are incredibly disappointed, but also very thankful that Linda has, like a Freight-Dog in an Aerostar, punched through the storm and is sailing smoothly through clear skies!  A few will understand this reference…

This year you will find us in town for Lovettsville’s O’fest supporting our favorite local businesses of 1836 Kitchen and Taproom, Backstreet Brews, and Andy’s Restaurant… come join us in town Sep 22nd and 23rd!   https://www.lovettsvilleoktoberfest.com/  &  https://www.facebook.com/lovettsvilleoktoberfest

Next year, we will be back, bigger, better and more fun than ever!

Until then, blues skies and tailwinds… and Prost!
